Tammy Duckworth

 

Tammy Duckworth is seeking her second term as US Senator. She was elected in 2016 after representing Illinois’ 8th Congressional District for two terms. Duckworth is also the former Assistant Secretary of the US Department of Veterans Affairs and a recipient of the Purple Heart. In 2004, Duckworth was deployed to Iraq. She was piloting a Blackhawk helicopter for the Illinois Army National Guard when her aircraft came under attack. She lost both legs and partial use of her right arm in the attack. Duckworth is the first US Senator to give birth while serving in office.
