Atomic Age logo with an illustration of a flapper style woman playing the sax. Text reads Episode 1093 Sax Appeal.

Sax Appeal is what we’re all about this week. A look at some of the great saxophone players of the hi-fi era. The sax, one of the core instruments of popular music of time, could be found in just about every ensemble or orchestra. From Big Band to Capitol "J" jazz to Space Age pop to Exotica and everything in between. It’s an instrument that was so versatile in style and in tone. It could rev you up with a wild wail or it could wrap you in soulful blues or it could played in a hundred different ways in between. We’ll hear from Gerry Mulligan, King Curtis, Zoot Sims, John Coltrane with a spotlight on cool sounds of Plas Johnson.
