Chief Illiniwek Public Intake Session, April 14, 2000

 

Judge Louis B. GarippoOn April 14, 2000, Judge Louis B. Garippo, former judge of the Cook County Circuit Court, moderated a day-long intake session at Foellinger Auditorium at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The purpose to allow members of the community to voice their views concerning the appropriateness and impact of Chief Illiniwek as a symbol of the University of Illinois. The intake session was part of a University-wide Dialogue on Chief Illiniwek established by the Board of Trustees. Statements were given by Chief supporters, opponents, faculty, staff, students, and Native Americans.
