Rauner Discusses Turnaround Agenda, Higher Education Funding With News-Gazette

Days after signing off on a stopgap budget measure, Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner says he wanted to provide more funding for higher education, but politics got in the way.

The Republican governor met Thursday with the News Gazette editorial board. The newspaper’s Tom Kacich was in the room for an interview that covered topics from higher education to the governor’s controversial Turnaround Agenda.

In an interview with Illinois Public Media’s Jeff Bossert, Kacich says Rauner said he got too much resistance from legislators to provide more funding to places like the University of Illinois.
