Malcolm Hill scored 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting, leading Illinois’ basketball to a 91-62 exhibition win over Division Two school Quincy Friday.

It was the first time freshman Michael Finke and Leron Black took the floor for the Illini.

Hill praised Black’s energy on the court.

“We he gets excited, he gets get energetic, and likes to show it," he said.  "I’m more of a laid back guy, you know - he gets real aggressive, and he gets excited.  I thought that was pretty funny myself.  But we need that energy on the court.   He played really good for his first game.”

Black made 7-of-9 shots and grabbed 8 rebounds, while Champaign Centennial graduate Finke finished with nine points.

But Coach John Groce said there were a number of defensive lapses that need to stop.

"We've got to take a lot more pride in keeping the basketball in front," he said.  "Offensively, we're going to be fine.  We've got multiple weapons."

It was the only exhibition game the Illini will play this year.

Next Friday the season opens officially, when they host Georgia Southern in Champaign.
