Decatur Police Up Patrols After Sunday Shootings

Authorities in the central Illinois community of Decatur say they're stepping up police patrols after a series of weekend shootings.

The (Decatur) Herald & Review reports there were five separate shootings on Sunday afternoon and evening. One person was injured.

Deputy Police Chief David Dickerson heads the police department's criminal investigations. He says authorities believe the shootings stem from a dispute between groups of people.

Some of the shootings may be connected. While police continue to investigate, extra officers are patrolling neighborhoods.

No arrests had been made by late Monday.
