Danville VA Restricts Hospital Access Because of Flu

Danville’s V.A. hospital is restricting visitor access after six patients recently contracted the flu virus.

V.A. Spokesman Doug Shouse said until things clear up, visitors under the age of 18 won’t be allowed in the hospital. He also said that applies to anyone with flu-like symptoms until they go at least a day without being sick.

“We hope that this will be a temporary situation," Shouse said. "We’re hoping two or three days that we’ll be able to lift that, but until then we want to make sure that our veterans are in a safe environment.”

Shouse said similar hospital restrictions were put into place in January at the height of the flu season.

The flu season started earlier than usual, but health officials say it is winding down.
