Champaign Police Search For Two Men In Connection To Shootings

Champaign Police have identified two suspects sought in a string of five gang-related shootings that have gone on since late last week.

The department on Wednesday morning released photos of two men – 23-year old Qwantrell Ayers and 22-year old Kevin Akins. Both are sought on warrants for aggravated discharge of a firearm in connection to a shooting on Friday afternoon in the 1100 block of Mimosa.

Bond for each of the men has been set at $1 million. Officers were called to Mimosa just past 1 p.m. on Friday for reports of shots fired. They found a red car damaged by gunfire with a back seat window blown out.

Three others have been arrested, including two on Tuesday. A loaded gun was recovered from a home in the 400 block of North 3rd Street.

Six people have been injured. Anyone with more information is asked to call Champaign Police or Crimestoppers.
