The Evening Concert

Thursday night April 25 at 7:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear another episode of “The Sound of 13”, a program that investigates the intersection between the 13th Amendment and classical music. At 8:00 it’s “The Middle”: a weekly, non-partisan call-in talk show on politics.  

Wednesday night April 24 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the San Francisco Symphony led by Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen. You’ll hear Berlioz’s “Symphonie fantastique”, Liszt’s “Totentanz” with pianist Bertrand Chamayou, and Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain”.

Tuesday night April 23 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Anna Rakitina in her CSO debut leading the Orchestra in an all-Tchaikovsky program of the "Capriccio italien," the "Nutcracker Suite”, and the “Rococo Variations” featuring cellist Alisa Weilerstein.

Monday night April 22 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. Anne-Sophie Mutter is the violin soloist in “Time Machines” by rock-musician-turned-composer Sebastien Currier. Then you’ll hear Mahler’s “5th Symphony”.  Mahler served as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic from 1909 to 1911.

Sunday night April 21 the Evening Concert starts at 5:00 o’clock with the “Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival”, followed at 6:00 by the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”, at 7:00 by Fiesta, and at 8:00 by Gateways Radio.

Wednesday night April 17 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the San Francisco Symphony led by Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen. You’ll hear the world premiere of Magnus Lindberg’s “Third Piano Concerto” featuring Yuja Wang, Carl Nielsen’s “Helios Overture”, and Béla Bartók’s “Concerto for Orchestra”.

Tuesday night April 16 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. The program begins with Sibelius' “Violin Concerto” featuring Jascha Heifetz, followed by Mahler's “Songs of a Wayfarer”, then Strauss’ “Burleske in D Minor” and concludes with Dvořák’s “Cello Concerto”.

Monday night April 15 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. Music director Jaap van Zweden conducts Stravinsky's “Rite of Spring”, Debussy's “La Mer”, and Beethoven's “Symphony No. 7 in A major”. The program differs from the listing in Patterns magazine.

Sunday night April 14 the Evening Concert starts at 5:00 o’clock with the “Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival”, followed at 6:00 by the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”, at 7:00 by Fiesta, and at 8:00 by Gateways Radio. Music by Beethoven, Brahms, Anonymous, and Florence Price, et.al.
