The Evening Concert

Wednesday night May 8 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the San Francisco Symphony. You’ll hear Tchaikovsky’s “2nd Symphony” and Elizabeth Ogonek’s “Moondog”. Elim Chan guest conducts. Also on the program Prokofiev’s “2nd Violin Concerto” with soloist James Ehnes.

Tuesday night May 7 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. You’ll hear Grieg’s Piano Concerto with soloist Simon Trpčeski. Xian Zhang (Shen Zhong) guest conducts. Also on the program Prokofiev’s “6th Symphony” and Nokuthula Ngwenyama’s “Primal Message”.

Monday night May 6 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. You’ll hear a 2011 recording in which Alan Gilbert conducted a staged production of Janáček's seventh opera, “The Cunning Little Vixen”, a playful, yet poignant, reflection on the cycle of life.

Sunday night May 5 the Evening Concert starts at 5:00 o’clock with the “Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival”, followed at 6:00 by the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”, at 7:00 by Fiesta, and at 8:00 by Gateways Radio.

Thursday night May 2 at 7:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear another episode of “The Sound of 13”, a program that investigates the intersection between the 13th Amendment and classical music. At 8:00 it’s “The Middle”: a weekly, non-partisan call-in talk show on politics.  

Wednesday night May 1 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the San Francisco Symphony led by Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen. You’ll hear Bartok’s “Suite from ‘The Miraculous Mandarin’” and Bernard Herrmann’s “Psycho:  A Narrative for String Orchestra”.

Tuesday night April 30 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. You’ll hear the complete symphonic poem cycle “Ma Vlast” (My Fatherland) by Bedrich Smetana with guest conductor Jakub Hrůša’s from his CSO debut concert program.

Monday night April 29 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. You’ll hear an encore presentation of the program that concluded Alan Gilbert’s first season as Music Director of the Philharmonic with the world premiere of Magnus Lindberg’s “Al Largo” followed by Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis”.
