Illinois lawmakers are returning to Springfield next week. We talk with Senate Majority Leader Kim Lightford about what might be on the agenda.

Lightford is also chair of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus and we ask her about the disproportionate toll COVID-19 has taken on African Americans in Illinois.

Meanwhile, high school seniors and college students are facing uncertainty about what the fall semester might look like. Some are considering a “gap year” — or at least a “gap semester” — because of the pandemic. We’ll talk about that with a college student, an admissions director, and a high school counselor.
