For years, the old post office and federal courthouse building in downtown Danville has been nearly empty, except for Congressman John Shimkus’ office. But over the next few months, the building will become the new home of Vermilion County government.
Vermilion County Board Chairman Mike Marron says he wants to run as the Republican nominee for the 104th District Illinois House seat. Marron aims to succeed incumbent Chad Hays, who has announced he won’t seek re-election.
The second medical marijuana dispensary to open in Champaign County is now seeing its first customers. Nu Med is located at 105 East University in Urbana, the site of a former Blockbuster Video location. It joins Champaign-based Phoenix Botanical as the two dispensaries allowed by the state's pilot program in State Police District 10, which includes Champaign, Vermilion, and seven other Central Illinois counties.
The county has achieved one of its future goals, the VC2025 plan, by setting up a website that connects those looking to volunteer with organizations like CRIS Senior Services, the Danville Library Foundation, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Vermilion County.
FEMA has denied the state's appeal for federal assistance to help local governments in Vermilion, Moultrie and 15 other counties that suffered storm damage in December and January.
