Rutherford Won’t Release Harassment Investigation

A campaign spokeswoman for Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford says an independent investigation over allegations of misconduct won't be released to the public because of a pending federal lawsuit.

Rutherford is making a bid for the GOP nomination for governor. Earlier this week a former employee accused Rutherford in a federal lawsuit of sexual harassment and forcing campaign work on state time.

The Chenoa Republican held a news conference last month about the allegations and said an outside investigation would clear his name.  However, Rutherford spokeswoman Judy Pardonnet said Thursday that the information now will only be released through the courts.

Rutherford has accused a fellow Republican gubernatorial rival of being behind the accusations. He faces businessman Bruce Rauner and state Sens. Kirk Dillard and Bill Brady in the primary.
