Police Announce Arrest in Danville Shooting, Ask Public’s Help In Champaign Shooting

Danville Police say there’s been an arrest in connection with last Friday’s early morning shooting in the first block of Kentucky Street that injured three people sitting on a porch, one of them a 16-year-old boy. And Champaign Police are investigating a whooting on West White Street.

Authorities says 17 year old Malachi D. Hatcher was arrested Tuesday in Chicago, in connection with the shooting. His arrest warrant charges Hatcher with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, with bond set at $1,000.000. He remained in custody Tuesday, awaiting return to Vermilion County.

Meanwhile, Champaign Police are asking the public’s help as they investigate a Monday evening shooting near the Gramercy apartments in the 2100 block of West White Street.

Witnesses say a black male driving a tan or gold-colored late-model car shot at a white Pontiac. And the 22 year old man who was the driver of a car fitting the Pontiac's description turned up at Presence Covenent Medical Center with a gunshot wound in the leg. A white Pontiac was later found by police in the area of Mattis and Kirby, riddled with apparent bullet holes.

No arrests have been made. If you have any information on the shooting, contact Champaign Police at 217-351-4545 or Champaign County Crime Stoppers at 217-373-TIPS or www.373tips.com.
