One Person Dead in Edgar County Plane Crash

Authorities say one person is dead after a small-plane crash near Paris, Illinois

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro says the Cessna 421 crashed sometime before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday a mile east of Edgar County Airport.

The airport is three miles north of Paris, about 60 miles southeast of Champaign on the Illinois-Indiana state line.

Molinaro says the pilot was the only person on board and was killed. The Edgar County coroner did not immediately return a call seeking the pilot's identity.

According to the FAA the twin-engine plane was built in 1976 and is owned by a Terre Haute, Ind., company.

Molinaro says the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. A call to the NTSB was not returned.
