Indiana Seeks $614K For Standardized Testing Problems

Indiana's state superintendent is seeking at least $614,000 in damages from CTB/McGraw-Hill for testing troubles.

Superintendent Glenda Ritz made that announcement Friday as CTB/McGraw-Hill President Ellen Haley apologized to lawmakers.

Haley called the disruptions for nearly 80,000 Indiana students last month "unacceptable'' and said the company's online servers were ``overwhelmed.''

Haley later added her staff is reviewing the damages claim.

Ritz said she's seeking $400,000 for fines covered in the company's $95 million contract with the state. She wants additional money to cover an independent review of the testing data and better reporting data.

Administration of online standardizes tests in Indiana and Oklahoma were thrown into chaos after they began freezing for hours at a time. Haley said the states relied on the same farm of online servers.
