Exploring the U of I Library’s New Digital Newspaper Collections

The main library at the University of Illinois' Urbana campus has been putting old newspapers on the web since 2005.  But thanks to a recent grant, the newest version includes coverage in areas outside Illinois, and new topics, extending back to the mid-1800's.

The new Digital Newspaper Collections extends outside state lines, covering areas like agriculture and entertainment.

Illinois Public Media's Jeff Bossert spoke with U of I Digital Humanities Specialist Kirk Hess about some of the newest online material, which contains 45 newspapers and more than 1-million pages of historical context.
