Danville Mayor Suspicious About Local Gas Prices

Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer believes something isn't quite right about gasoline prices in his city so he's tracking them.

Eisenhauer told The News-Gazette in Champaign that he'sconcerned gas prices in the city on the Indiana state line are consistentlyhigher than others in the area such as Champaign. And he worries that pricefixing may be involved.

Eisenhauer is tracking prices for 90 days to see what he finds. He hopes to get the Illinois Attorney General's office to take a look.

Attorney General spokesman Scott Mulford says price fixing is hard to prove and very rarely successfully prosecuted.

IllinoisGasPrices.com reported prices from $2.73 to $3.89 a gallon in Danville on Thursday.  Prices in other eastern Illinois towns ranged from $3.59 to $3.89.
