Danville Farmer’s Market Begins Season

Vendors say there was a decent crowd as the Downtown Danville Farmer’s Market was starting its fourth season.  There were 8 vendors selling a variety of products next to the city library Wednesday morning.

Melinda Rentrop lives in Bismarck.  Items in her booth included ‘Mugs of Joy’ or plants in coffee mugs, homemade dog treats, as well as some baking and vegetables.  

"Cause we're close to Indiana, we get a lot of Indiana people," she said.  "We do good.  It's been steady today, and I'm surprised (given the weather.)"

The farmer’s market doesn’t have a set policy on whether vendors can accept federal programs like WIC or food stamps.  Library Director Barbara Nolan says individual vendors can register for those programs.

Nolan expects more than 20 vendors to come to the market as temperatures warm up.  Right now, they’re also restricted to the library parking lot while the city does re-landscaping of the area. 

Nolan says vendors should be able to return to lawn by mid-June once the soil and sod has time to settle.

Kids activities include a taste-testing for fruits and vegetables and story hours.

The Danville Farmers market is from 7am to noon each Wednesday and Saturday through October 5th.
