The Champaign County Sheriff’s Department says the public’s help is needed in solving the ‘suspicious’ death of Kelsie Blackford.

Captain Allen Jones says two men discovered the body of the 23-year old Villa Grove woman while fishing on August 29th near Mahomet.  The decomposing body was discovered just east of Route 47 along the Sangamon River.

Sheriff's Department Captain Allen Jones says two men fishing discovered the body while fishing on August 29th near Mahomet along the Sangamon River.  But Jones says the Champaign County Coroner only identified the body Thursday night.

And although she was reported last seen late 2012, Jones said Blackford was not reported as missing person’s case.

"From what we’ve determined after recovery through today is that she was last seen in the last part of November 2012," he said.  "And that, it was just a contact with friends.  So there may be some more pieces that need to be filled in, or more contact with a friend.  Did somebody see in her in December?  I don’t know.”

Investigators say the decomposed body was found along Champaign County Road 2650N, about a mile east of Illinois Route 47 and along the Sangamon River.

Jones says he’s encouraged that calls are already starting to come in to authorities from those familiar with Blackford.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office at (217) 384-1213, or anonymous by calling Crimestoppers (217) 373-8477.
