Woman Dies in Fall from Campustown High-Rise

Champaign Police are investigating a report of a woman who fell from a Campustown apartment building late Friday morning.

Police were called to the scene at 309 E. Green St. just before 11:30 a.m.  39 year old Stephanie Ognar of Champaign was later pronounced dead by Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup.

Champaign Police Lieutenant Robert Rea said the woman is not believed to be a University of Illinois student.  He said it's not clear what floor the woman fell from.

Coroner Northrup says a preliminary investigation indicates Ognar's fall may have been intentional, but that the investigation is ongoing. An autopsy is to be performed on Saturday, and an inquest may be performed at a later date.

The building at 309 E. Green in Champaign from which Ognar fell is sometimes referred to as "the Whopper". It is Champaign-Urbana's tallest building, and was built on a site where a Burger King once stood.

UPDATE: This story was updated to show the victim's identity and other comments from the coroner.
