Springfield Superintendent May Not Start Until ‘14

Authorities say it could be another year before Springfield has a new school superintendent.

The Springfield School Board is paying $21,000 to hire a search firm to help find a replacement for Walter Milton, who left the district in March. Bob Leming is working as an interim superintendent while a permanent replacement is being found.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports the search firm hopes to have a new superintendent on the job next July.

Officials had considered expediting the search process, but school board members said they'd rather wait to have a larger pool of applicants and interview them in the fall and winter.

Springfield School District 186 has about 15,000 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
