Seven File Petitions For 13th District Seat
A crowded field of candidates is lining up with hopes of unseating freshman Congressman Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) in the race for Illinois’ 13th Congressional District.
State Board of Elections filings show Davis and two other Republicans turned in their nominating petitions on Monday, the first available date.
As expected, Urbana Attorney Erika Harold filed her petitions, as did veterinarian Michael Firsching of Moro, who lost to former Congressman Tim Johnson (R-Urbana) in the 2012 primary, after which, Johnson chose to retire. That decision set up a weighted vote among Republican county chairmen in the 13th District in which Davis was selected as the candidate.
Four names will be on the Democratic ticket for the office.
University of Illinois physics professor George Gollin, U of I policy analyst David Green, both of Champaign, and retired judge Ann Callis of Edwardsville.
Democrat Bill Byrnes, a bus driver for Normal Unit 5 schools, turned in his nominating petitions on Tuesday.
