Schillerstrom Considers Bid For Illinois Treasurer

A former DuPage County board chairman and 2010 gubernatorial candidate is considering a bid for state treasurer.

Republican Bob Schillerstrom announced the formation of an exploratory committee for the position on Wednesday. He says he has support from more than 50 Republican leaders, including former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, former Attorney General Jim Ryan and former Illinois House Speaker Lee Daniels.

The current state treasurer, Republican Dan Rutherford, announced his candidacy for governor earlier this month.

Schillerstrom says he will use his fiscal experience on the county board to maximize investments and keep spending flat. He withdrew from the 2010 governor's race after a six-month campaign. He then endorsed Ryan, one of a number of candidates in the crowded Republican primary field.
