Indiana Releases New Voter Registration Forms

Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson says she hopes the state's new voter registration forms will help curb voter fraud.

The new forms will include a receipt for new voters, so they can see who processed their form. Activists signing up new voters will now have to send potential forged applications to local election officials with a statement signed under oath explaining why they believe the form a forgery.

Lawson unveiled the new forms Wednesday, saying they should help election officials track who registered each voter. The change comes after South Bend Democratic leader Butch Morgan was sentenced to jail in a vote forgery scandal.

County election officials have reported "hoarding and dumping'' of large numbers of registrations in previous elections, making it easier for forgeries to slip through.
