Former Gov. Daniels Starts at Purdue with Fact-Finding Tour

Purdue students praise new university President Mitch Daniels for his sharp memory and accessibility to them in his first week on the West Lafayette campus.

The Journal and Courier of Lafayette reports (http://on.jconline.com/UYrrWc ) the former governor started his first days in the new job with a fact-finding tour of the university. Faculty leaders give him an "A-plus'' for effort so far.

Members of the University Senate like Chairman Paul Robinson say Daniels will have to "differentiate fact from fiction'' as he transitions into the new community.

The paper reports Daniels is eyeing a series of issues, including how fast the school moves to a trimester system, how it improves the diversity of students and staff, how he handles lingering ethics issues, and how he improves fundraising for the college.
