Brad Demuzio Dies, Was Illinois Sec. of State Police Director

 

Brad Demuzio, the head of the Illinois Secretary of State Police has died.

The 50-year-old Demuzio was pronounced dead at his home in Springfield at 2:55 PM Sunday afternoon. The Illinois Police Benevolent and Protective Association says on its Facebook page that Demuzio died of "an apparent massive heart attack". The Sangamon County Coroner's Office says preliminary findngs of an autopsy conducted Monday indicate Demuzio died of natural causes.

Demuzio was a former mayor of Carlinville, and the son of current Carlinville Mayor and former state senator Deanna Demuzio, and the late Vince Demuzio, also a former state senator.

The Illinois Secretary of State Police enforces the law on businesses involved in the sale of motor vehicles and vehicle parts. It also oversees the Capitol Police Department, which patrols the State Capitol Complex in Springfield.
