Freedom Riders Push for Racial Justice

 

Fifty years ago, 450 black and white Americans put their lives on the line simply by getting on a bus.

They knew that federal law protected their right to travel together, but they also knew they could be killed by trying to exercise that right. Illinois Public Media's David Inge looks back at the freedom riders by talking with University of South Florida history professor Raymond Arsenault and former freedom rider Thomas Armstrong.
